Rotarians are out to eradicate polio from the planet. There are only four groups with this cause and Rotary funds 50% of the worldwide effort. There are less than 1000 cases of polio in the world, but they are scattered in spots all over the globe, making it difficult to contain. A disease must have zero cases for three consecutive years to be considered eradicated. We are close, but must push on. Pryor Rotary has contributed thousands of dollars over the years to this cause.
We built a pavilion at Centennial Park in Pryor and provided water fountains, picnic tables with inlaid chess boards, landscaping and a public restroom.
We collect surplus medical equipment and ship it to those in need to all parts of the world, even locally.
We provide scholarships to deserving Mayes County students to assist in their funding for a college education.
We actively increase organ donor awareness in this area of Oklahoma to help save lives.
We send high school students to the RYLA camp which helps develop their leadership skills.
We sponsor the 4-Way Speech Contest for high school students.
We assist in the local Troop Support Program for our overseas soldiers.
We support the annual Relay for Life program for cancer research.
We give dictionaries to every third grade student and a thesaurus to each fourth grade student in Mayes County schools.
We support the local food pantry at the Ministry Center and the Free Medical Clinic.
I just returned from my 4 day participation at the RLYA camp in Tahlequah and wanted to thank the Rotary Club for sponsoring me. It was a wonderful experience and one that I will remember the rest of my life I am extremely grateful that I was chosen to be a part of of this leadership program, and learned lessons that I know will make me a better individual and a better community leader. I want to go to college and become a motivational speaker and the experience at the camp has given me even more of a determination to do so. I would be happy to come to one of your meetings and share what the camp meant to me if the opportunity arises. Thank you again, you have really made a difference in my life.
